Vicke Lindstrand for Kosta Seaweed and Fish Art Glass Vase 1960's MCM 42349. Vicke Lindstrand Seaweed Vase Etched Fish, Kosta Boda Seaweed Vase, Vicke Lindstrand Mykene Vase, Kosta Boda Glass Vase, Controlled Bubble Vase. 2 available - see my other listing.

Vintage Kosta Boda art glass "seaweed" vase with etched angel fish (both sides) swimming in seaweed and controlled bubbles. It features a thick rounded lip. This fine glass work is by the Swedish artist, Vicke Lindstrand, for Kosta Boda Glass and was created most likely in the 1960's. The vase was hand blown and the green "seaweed" leaves and controlled bubbles were created using Lindstrand's "Mykene" technique that he developed in the 1930s. The thick-walled glass gives the optical appearance of motion to this underwater scene. The piece is signed "Kosta 42349 Lindstrand" on the base. The vase weighs approx 7 pounds and six ounces. Diameter (widest part): 13 5/8 inches.

Excellent vintage condition with very few surface marks on bottom. I pack all my items in generous bubble wrap and pack with even more generous packing materials. Victor Emanuel Lindstrand, better known as Vicke Lindstrand (Born 27 November 1904 in Gothenburg - Died 7 May 1983 in Kosta) was a well known Swedish glass designer, textile and ceramic designer, and painter. He is considered one of the pioneers of Swedish glass art. As a child, Lindstrand was interested in drawing and later studied commercial art.

He pioneered daring art glass designs at Orrefors and, together with Edvin Öhrström and Knut Bergqvist, he invented the Ariel technique. Orrefors could not afford to keep Lindstrand during the war, so between 1943 and 1950, he became creative leader at Uppsala Ekeby, where he designed many different stoneware objects ranging from pots to figural sculptures. In 1950, Lindstrand joined Kosta Glasbruk as an artistic director before his retirement in 1973. At Kosta, he was the primary designer, lending his name to many now classic designs.
