Rare Vintage Mid-Century 1970s Kosta Boda Signed Warff Crackle Art Glass Bowl

Rare Vintage Mid-Century 1970s Kosta Boda Signed Warff Crackle Art Glass Bowl. This gorgeous art glass bowl is a fabulous and rare example of renowned glass artist Goran Warff's work for Kosta Boda. Created in 1974 it is made in the'Polar' colour palette and style, though it is difficult to determine whether this piece is actually from the series or an original set. Signed Kosta Warff 57427 to the base there were not many made of this piece and each is slightly different.

My understanding of the Kosta number system which by all accounts is notoriously contradictory! Is that the 5 means it's a bowl (4 is for vase for instance) then the next two numbers 74 in this case are the year made and then the last two numbers are the pattern or product number. Looking at this piece it is easy to see why Scandinavian glassmakers such as Goran Warff & Kosta Boda we're at the forefront of the iconic modernist art glass of the 1960s & 70s that defined the aesthetic of the era. With its striking icy crackle texture and deep greens & blues it has a feel of glacial pools reflecting the ethereal glow of the Aurora Borealis. This atmospheric effect is only enhanced by its slightly asymmetric shape and smoothed rounded rim. A perfect addition to any collection. Signed to base: Kosta 57427 Warff.

4.75in or just over 12cm in length and width. 3.25in or 8.5cm in height. Opening has a diameter of 4.5in or 11cm. Condition is'Used' - Good Overall Condition, 2 small scratches, some faint wear scratching and an inclusion.

Full condition report: Some tiny scratches in one little patch near rim and 2 small short scratches to surface near rim. One long very faint scratch across base and very very faint inner side scratches. Only the 2 small short scratches are noticeable. Also there is a sort of inclusion on the bottom of the bowl that looks like a bit of the blue has got stuck in the green during the manufacturing process! It feels rough to the touch but is embedded into the bottom.
