VINTAGE LIMITED EDITION ART GLASS SCULPTURE. PERFUME BOTTLE BY MONICA BACKSTROM FOR KOSTA BODA. HAND MADE AND FULLY SIGNED.
An extraordinary work of the glassmakers art, this two-piece sculptural perfume bottle was created by Monica Backstrom in an edition limited to 100 examples. Standing over 9 inches tall and 4 1/2 inches wide, this is a multi-colored work with exquisitely crafted inclusions of color internal to the glass. Together, the bulbous base and twin-peaked top weigh over 800 grams (almost two pounds of handcrafted crystal).
Monica Backstrom was the featured cover artist in the Summer 2001 issue of GLASS, the journal of the world-reknowned UrbanGlass studio. Backstrom was born in 1939 in Stockholm, Sweden, and came to Boda Glasbruk in 1965 with revolutionary ideas as to the appearance of glass. Today, her work is in museum collections around the world. These include the world-famous Corning Glass Museum (Corning NY), American Craft Museum (NYC), Victoria and Albert Museum (London), and the Cooper-Hewitt Museum (part of the Smithsonian Institute, located in New York City).
